Stovetop Popcorn

Sometimes you come home from work and all you want to do is plop down in front of the TV and watch a mindless movie with a bowl of popcorn on your lap.  Forget buying microwaveable bags and make some stovetop popcorn!

Makes about 5 cups of popcorn
Ingredients:
2 Tablespoons canola oil
3 Tablespoons un-popped popcorn kernels

Instructions:
1) Over medium heat, heat up the oil in a medium pot along with 2 kernels or popcorn.  Cover with a lid.  When you hear those kernels pop, it's time to add the rest of the kernels and put the lid back on.
2) Shake the pot back and forth constantly while over the flame.  This ensures that the bottom won't burn and all of the kernels will get an even amount of heat.
3) Listen for when there are 2-3 seconds between pops because that means your popcorn is ready.  Remove from the heat and pour into a bowl.
4) Add any toppings you want. I suggest tossing the popcorn with butter or oil if you plan on adding any powders or spices so that they'll stick to the popcorn.  Enjoy!

*You can even get creative with the toppings.   Here are some suggestions:  salt and pepper, madras curry powder, cinnamon and sugar,  old bay seasoning, drizzle with chocolate, or just toss with butter and salt.  You can also get even more creative and add herbs like thyme or sage.
